For more than forty years, people have been asking me to write an advanced midwifery workbook covering pregnancy & birth complications. Even when I was in active practice, the project always felt too large, so I focused on what became the Basic Level Birthsong Midwifery Workbook, covering normal pregnancy, birth, and newborn care. But now the Advanced Midwifery Workbook & Coloring Book: Developing Clinical Judgment, Shared Decision-Making, and Advanced Practice Skills is now underway.
My wonderful co-author, Dana L. Moore, BSM, CPM, LM, who was instrumental in revising the 7th Edition Birthsong Midwifery Workbook, is writing the clinical content for the new book.
This companion volume builds on the Birthsong Midwifery Workbook and is designed to help midwifery students and practicing midwives strengthen their clinical reasoning through interactive learning, case studies, decision-making exercises, and coloring activities.
Dana is creating the evidence-based clinical content, while I'm developing the educational activities, illustrations, workbook design, and all the fun interactive pieces that made the original workbook so popular.
We're only a few chapters into the project, but it's exciting to watch it come together. I can't wait to share more previews as we continue developing what we hope will become a valuable resource for midwifery education.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me over the years to take on this project. It has been a long time coming, and I'm thrilled that it's finally underway. (The cover of the advanced book is just a mock-up.)
